Nigerian music icon 2Baba, whose real name is Innocent Idibia, has found himself at the center of a family crisis after his mother, Mrs. Rose Idibia, publicly pleaded with his fiancée, Natasha Osawaru, to let him go.

The emotional appeal came just 24 hours after the singer proposed to Osawaru, an Edo State lawmaker, a move that sent shockwaves across the entertainment and political spheres.

In a video circulating online, Mrs. Idibia expressed her deep concern over her son’s state of mind, suggesting that he was not acting rationally following his recent separation from his estranged wife, Annie Idibia.

The legendary musician, who had spent over a decade with Annie, announced their divorce in January, a revelation that was met with mixed reactions from the public. However, just weeks after the announcement, 2Baba’s decision to propose to Osawaru ignited another storm of controversy, with many accusing him of being insensitive.

His mother, in her passionate plea, attributed his actions to emotional distress, arguing that the ongoing divorce had taken a toll on his mental well-being. She made it clear that she did not believe her son was in control of his own decisions, reinforcing the idea that his engagement was not of his own free will.

In the now-viral video, Mrs. Idibia called on Nigerian mothers to intervene and appeal to Osawaru to “free” her son. Her words carried a deep sense of urgency, as she spoke with a mix of frustration and desperation.

“Good evening, Nigerians. My name is Mrs. Rose Idibia, the mother of 2Face. This message is for Miss Natasha Osawaru of Edo State. I’m calling on all mothers in Nigeria to help me beg her to free my son,” she implored. “My son is going through a divorce process, and he is clearly not in his right senses now. I know my son well. That is not him.”

Mrs. Idibia further alleged that Osawaru may have used traditional charms on the singer, emphasizing the presence of beads around his wrist and neck as a sign of spiritual influence. “Please, Natasha, the beads you put on his hand and on his neck, remove them and free him,” she pleaded, reinforcing her belief that her son was not acting of his own volition.

Her emotional appeal has since sparked widespread discussions online, with some supporting her concerns while others dismissed her claims as baseless.

2Baba, a father of seven, has yet to publicly respond to his mother’s allegations, nor has Natasha Osawaru issued any statement regarding the controversy.

However, social media has been abuzz with speculation, with many questioning whether the singer truly made the decision to propose on his own or if external influences were at play.

Critics have also pointed out that the speed at which 2Baba moved on from his long-time partner, Annie, raises questions about the nature of his new relationship.

Despite the ongoing backlash, 2Baba appears to be moving forward with his life, while the public continues to dissect the drama surrounding his personal affairs.

Whether his mother’s plea will have any impact on his engagement remains to be seen, but one thing is certain—the saga has further cemented 2Baba’s reputation as one of the most talked-about figures in Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
