Nigerian singer Ahmedu Augustine Obiabo, popularly known as Blackface, has written an open letter to his former bandmate Innocent Idibia, widely recognized as 2Face or 2Baba.
In the heartfelt message, Blackface also addressed Annie Macaulay Idibia, 2Baba’s estranged wife and mother of two of his children. The singer’s letter, shared publicly, comes in the wake of the couple’s ongoing separation, as he calls for calm, maturity, and discretion in handling their private matters.
Blackface opened his letter with a warm greeting, urging both 2Baba and Annie to navigate their divorce with dignity and grace. “My open letter to Innocent Idibia and Annie Macaulay Idibia—I bid you both good tidings, Mr. and Mrs. Idibia,” he wrote.
“I am reaching out to you both at this time to remind us to show decorum and be civil with whatever proceedings you may be going through.” His words conveyed a deep sense of concern, emphasizing the importance of handling their situation privately rather than engaging in public disputes.
Reflecting on the responsibilities that come with being public figures, Blackface reminded them that their actions set an example for millions of people. “As role models, we should always set good examples for this generation to emulate, and the older generations to be proud,” he stated.
He stressed that celebrities are constantly in the spotlight, and their behavior influences not just their immediate circles but also fans and admirers who look up to them. His appeal was not just for their sake but for the larger society that follows their journey.
The singer, who has himself experienced a marital separation, acknowledged that challenges are inevitable in any relationship. However, he urged the couple to keep their struggles private, rather than making them a spectacle for the public.
“Let’s keep it together in the family as every relationship has its ups and downs,” he advised. He cautioned against airing personal grievances in the public space, noting that such actions often do more harm than good, especially when emotions are running high.
As he concluded his letter, Blackface expressed his heartfelt prayers for 2Baba and Annie, hoping they would find the strength to navigate their difficulties. “I pray God gives you both the strength to scale through this,” he wrote, adding a personal touch to his message.
He extended his regards to their families and sent his love to their children, highlighting his genuine concern for everyone affected by the situation. “My regards to your families and my love to your kids. With love, ❤️ BlackfaceNaija.”
Through his open letter, Blackface has stepped in as both a friend and an elder statesman, encouraging 2Baba and Annie to handle their separation with wisdom and restraint.
