In another historic achievement for Afrobeats, Nigerian megastar Davido has claimed the number one spot on the UK Spotify album chart with his fifth studio album, 5ive.

This remarkable debut reinforces Davido’s status as a dominant force in global music and marks a new milestone in the international recognition of Afrobeats.

The album’s UK chart-topping success comes on the heels of its explosive performance in Nigeria, where it recorded the second-highest opening week streams for any album in Spotify Nigeria’s history.

Released on April 18, 2025, 5ive is a 17-track project that showcases Davido’s global ambition and his ability to unite sounds across continents.

Speaking about the album’s diverse sound, Davido shared in an interview, “I wanted 5ive to feel like a journey through my world — Afrobeats at the center, but with branches reaching into every sound I love.” The album features a robust lineup of guest artists, blending cultures and genres with ease.

One of the standout collaborations features American R&B star Victoria Monét, whose sultry voice melts into the Afrobeats rhythm, creating a captivating fusion that fans and critics alike have praised.

Within the Nigerian scene, Davido stays rooted with collaborations from some of the country’s finest talents. He taps Omah Lay and Victony, who bring their signature style to the album’s melodic depth.

Rising rap star OdumoduBlvck appears alongside Chike on the infectious track “Fund,” fusing grit and soul in a way that highlights the genre’s growing dynamism.

“Working with these guys felt like collaborating with the future,” Davido noted. “They understand the sound, and they’re pushing it forward in ways that are inspiring.”

On the international front, 5ive is equally star-studded. Davido teams up with Jamaican artist YG Marley for the lead single “Awuke,” a spiritual blend of reggae and Afrobeats that set the tone for the album’s global appeal.

The Caribbean presence continues with dancehall queen Shenseea and singer 450, adding a tropical flavor to the mix.

Latin pop star Becky G and American R&B powerhouse Chris Brown — a frequent Davido collaborator — bring their global flair, while South African hitmaker Musa Keys returns after their successful Grammy-nominated hit “Unavailable” from Timeless.

Davido further expands his reach by collaborating with French music stars Dadju and Tayc, signaling his growing influence in the Francophone music space.

“I see the album as a map,” Davido said. “Every feature, every beat, every lyric points to a place I’ve been or want to go — and to the people who’ve inspired me along the way.”

With 5ive, Davido not only reinforces his reputation as a hitmaker but also as a cultural connector, bridging continents and sounds to deliver a project that’s as global as it is deeply personal.
