To mark the launch of his fifth studio album, 5IVE, Afrobeats superstar Davido hosted an exclusive meet-and-greet in Lagos, giving 50 superfans and five media outlets an up-close encounter with the artist.

Organized by Spotify, the event was an intimate celebration that brought together music lovers, industry insiders, and Davido himself for an afternoon of conversation, music, and personal connection.

“It’s not every day you get to be this close to your fans,” Davido said, speaking to the gathering. “This album means a lot to me, and I wanted to share that directly with the people who ride with me the most.”

Access to the event wasn’t handed out casually—Spotify created a five-question quiz centered on Davido’s music, testing fans’ loyalty and knowledge. Only those who passed the quiz earned a coveted seat at the roundtable.

The result was a room full of devoted fans who not only knew Davido’s biggest hits but had deep connections to his lyrics and journey.

Host Ireculture opened the event with warmth and enthusiasm, while SmallztheDJ spun Afrobeats hits to keep the energy flowing throughout the day.

The event reached a fever pitch when Davido—who had teased his absence—suddenly appeared in the room, triggering screams and cheers.

The surprise entrance captured the larger-than-life charisma he’s known for. “I had to make it dramatic,” Davido joked, grinning as fans crowded around for photos and hugs.

The artist mingled freely, taking time to listen to fans’ stories, share laughs, and talk about the making of 5IVE.

Spotify’s Victor Okapala, Artist and Label Partnerships lead for West Africa, emphasized the significance of the gathering: “This event is a testament to how music can bridge the gap between an artist and their audience.

With 5IVE, Davido is reminding the world why Afrobeats continues to resonate globally.”

According to Spotify’s data, Davido’s music has appeared in over 12 million playlists in the past year alone, with listeners in Nigeria, the U.S., the U.K., South Africa, and France tuning in.

His largest fanbase skews young, with 34% of listeners aged 18-24 and 41% between 25-34.

A key moment during the gathering was a heartfelt roundtable discussion between Davido and his fans. Listeners shared their impressions of the new album, with several highlighting 10 Kilo as an early standout track.

Davido, visibly touched by the feedback, remarked, “I put my soul into this album. I wanted to evolve but stay true to my sound. Hearing you all connect to these songs makes it worth it.”

In appreciation of their loyalty, each guest received a specially curated gift box that included five fashion items designed by Nigerian streetwear label Severe Nature, which also crafted the official 5IVE merchandise.

The keepsakes served as a tangible reminder of the experience and reinforced Davido’s dedication to promoting local brands alongside his global sound.

As 5IVE continues to gain momentum across streaming platforms, the Lagos event reflected more than just a celebration of new music—it was a testament to Davido’s enduring bond with his audience.

“When you see artists like Beyoncé, Drake, Kendrick Lamar, and Rihanna, you realise the level of work it takes to stay great,” Davido said. “With 5IVE, I went all out, and moments like this show me it’s all paying off.”
