Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Ralph Fiennes are joining the cast of the highly anticipated sequel to the cult classic “28 Days Later.” Titled “28 Years Later,” the film will see the return of director Danny Boyle and writer Alex Garland, who helmed the original.
While the 2002 film, starring Cillian Murphy, depicted a zombie-ravaged UK, this new installment aims to kickstart a new trilogy in the same vein.
Despite not directing the previous sequel, “28 Weeks Later,” Boyle and Garland served as executive producers. However, they are fully back on board for this project, which is expected to reinvigorate the zombie horror genre much like its predecessor did in the early 2000s.
Murphy, who gained prominence from the original film, will return as an executive producer this time around.

“28 Days Later” not only propelled the zombie genre into the mainstream but also boosted the careers of its stars and creators. The film’s surprise success, grossing over £65 million worldwide, paved the way for other zombie-themed movies and TV shows like “World War Z,” “Zombieland,” and “The Walking Dead.”
it also played a significant role in establishing Boyle as a director of note, leading to his acclaimed works like “Slumdog Millionaire” and “127 Hours.”
Jodie Comer, known for her Emmy-winning role in “Killing Eve,” has recently appeared in “Free Guy” and Ridley Scott’s “The Last Duel.” Aaron Taylor-Johnson, whose potential casting as the next James Bond has been speculated, is also on board for the film.
Ralph Fiennes, an Oscar-nominated actor, rounds out the cast announcements. Fiennes is currently starring in “Macbeth” in Washington DC, adding his esteemed talent to the already impressive lineup.
