Former federal lawmaker, Senator Dino Melaye, has launched a scathing attack on veteran Nigerian musician and TV presenter, Charles Chukwuemeka Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy.
This fierce exchange began after Charly Boy took a swipe at Melaye, criticizing his frequent displays of wealth on social media.
Known for his flamboyant lifestyle, Dino Melaye, who represented Kogi West during the 8th Assembly, often showcases his luxury cars and expensive possessions online, a habit that has drawn both admiration and criticism.
Charly Boy, never one to shy away from controversy, recently mocked Melaye for his self-proclaimed uniqueness in a video where the former senator declared, “There’s no one else like me. I’m limited edition.”
Responding to this, Charly Boy suggested that Melaye’s flashy displays might be a sign of deeper issues. “Dino might be depressed amid his wealth,” Charly Boy remarked.
He added a provocative comment, stating, “Not all mental illnesses are noticeable,” implying that Melaye’s behavior might be a cry for help rather than a celebration of success.
Melaye, however, was not one to take such comments lightly. Taking to Facebook, he fired back at Charly Boy in a video where he did not hold back his words.
According to Melaye, the veteran musician was merely seeking relevance by attacking him. “He wanted to use my name to gain popularity because his destiny has been thrown inside a freezer,” Melaye declared, mocking Charly Boy’s relevance in the entertainment industry.
In the same video, Melaye took direct shots at Charly Boy’s financial situation. “I heard he has a leaking roof but has no money to fix it,” Melaye said, casting doubts on Charly Boy’s financial stability.
He continued his tirade by mocking the musician’s iconic display of a large motorbike in front of his house, which Melaye described as a form of show-off that Charly Boy seemed unaware of.
“He places a whole big bike in front of his house like a statue, and he doesn’t see that as a show-off,” Melaye sneered, questioning the double standards in Charly Boy’s criticism.
The clash between the two public figures has since drawn mixed reactions. Some observers have sided with Melaye, viewing his response as justified, while others believe Charly Boy’s criticism was a bold call for introspection in a society that often glorifies wealth over substance.
As the online feud continues to gain attention, it remains to be seen whether either of the two outspoken personalities will back down or if this is just the beginning of a prolonged war of words.
But one thing is certain – neither Dino Melaye nor Charly Boy is known for silence in the face of confrontation.
