Stirling is set to become a thriving hub for the media industry with the development of Stirling Studios on former Ministry of Defence (MoD) land at Forthside. The project, which will be one of the largest media centers in Scotland, is expected to generate over 4,000 jobs over the next 25 years, providing opportunities for high-skilled employment in the region.

Carol Beattie, Chief Executive of Stirling Council, emphasized the strategic fit of the site with the needs of the industry, following consultations with industry stakeholders and experts.

The Stirling Studios project will repurpose existing buildings on the site, retaining and refurbishing some while clearing and redeveloping the rest in alignment with existing plans. The location’s suitability for filming, combined with the surrounding scenic landscapes and excellent transport links, has been highlighted as key advantages.

The project has been made possible through the Stirling and Clackmannanshire City Region Deal, with £5m secured for the acquisition of the MoD land and support from the UK government’s levelling up fund.

Stirling Council Leader Chris Kane expressed optimism about the project’s potential to establish Stirling as a global player in the creative industry, providing opportunities for local talent and contributing to the region’s economic growth.

The UK government minister for Scotland, John Lamont, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the government’s commitment to supporting Scotland’s creative industries and investing in regional development. With £24m of funding from Westminster, the Stirling Studios project represents a significant step towards realizing the city’s ambitions in the media sector.
