Former General Hospital actor Johnny Wactor was shot and killed by thieves attempting to steal the catalytic converter from his car. The incident occurred around 3 a.m. on Saturday in downtown Los Angeles.
Wactor, 37, approached three men near his vehicle, believing it was being towed due to his unfamiliarity with the area where he had parked. One of the men opened fire, and Wactor was later pronounced dead at the hospital. The suspects fled the scene, and no arrests have been made.
Wactor had just left a nearby rooftop bar before the shooting. His mother, Scarlett Wactor, recounted that her son initially thought his car was being towed. David Shaul, Wactor’s agent, praised him as a moral exemplar who remained resilient throughout the challenges of his career.
Shaul expressed profound grief at Wactor’s death, noting the actor’s generous spirit and the significant void his passing leaves.
Johnny Wactor was known for his role as Brando Corbin on the soap opera General Hospital from 2020 to 2022. He also appeared in several other TV series and films, including Station 19, NCIS, Westworld, and the video game Call of Duty: Vanguard.
Scarlett Wactor hopes that watching her son’s past performances will provide some comfort, imagining him enjoying his craft in the afterlife.
NBC News highlighted that catalytic converters are frequently targeted by thieves for their valuable metals like platinum, palladium, and rhodium.
