Popular Nollywood actress Lizzy Gold has stirred a conversation online after calling out her father for what she described as an “entitlement mentality.”
The actress took to Instagram to share a personal and emotional experience she had with her dad over the Easter holiday, lamenting that her generous gesture was met with what she felt was an underwhelming response.
Although the original video was later deleted, the message had already made waves across social media, prompting debates about family expectations and appreciation.
Narrating the incident, Lizzy explained that she had surprised her father with a substantial amount of money, significantly more than what she usually sends during celebrations.
“Normally, I always send money to my father. I do it at night so that when he wakes up, he’ll see the amount and feel the love behind it,” she said.
The actress added that in the past, her father’s heartfelt prayers in response had always encouraged her to do even more. “Trust me, I enjoy the prayers because it gingers me,” she remarked.
However, this time around, the response didn’t match her expectations. “On Easter day, my father sent a message in the morning; ‘Baby how far na? Do Easter for your papa na.’ I acted like I didn’t see it. Then around 2 am, I sent him money—ten times more than I usually give. I was excited, expecting powerful prayers that would lift my spirit in the morning,” she recounted.
But the actress was disappointed when she checked her phone the next day only to find a single word in response: “Thanks.”
Still stunned by the lack of enthusiasm, Lizzy said she decided to call her father to understand why he hadn’t prayed for her like he used to. “He told me, ‘I prayed for you in my heart,’” she revealed.
The actress admitted that while she appreciates silent prayers, she also values verbal appreciation and blessings as a form of encouragement.
In a conversation that followed, Lizzy said she expressed her disappointment clearly to her dad. “I told him, ‘Daddy, I don’t pluck money from trees. I work tirelessly for it.’ I explained that the prayers matter to me—that they motivate me to give more,” she said, emphasizing that gestures of appreciation should never be taken for granted, especially from loved ones.
Her story has sparked varied reactions online, with many resonating with her call for emotional acknowledgment and appreciation within families.
While some sided with her view that appreciation is essential in relationships, others felt that silent prayers could be just as meaningful.
Either way, Lizzy’s candid revelation has opened up a broader conversation about how families handle generosity and gratitude.
