Africa Magic, under the Multichoice group, has announced a new Nollywood trilogy titled My Fairytale Wedding, set to premiere in 2024. The rom-com series was revealed during the 2024 Fame Week Africa and will explore the unique experiences of modern-day African women.

The story centers around a 29-year-old woman who, in her quest to find love, resorts to using ‘kayanmata,’ a traditional love potion from a wealthy seller. The film aims to reflect the complexities of modern relationships and Nigerian wedding traditions.

Starring Uzor Arukwe and Lilian Esoro in the lead roles, My Fairytale Wedding delves into the challenges of contemporary love and the pressures of societal expectations.

According to the official logline, the trilogy offers “love, laughter, and a sprinkle of magic,” blending African culture with a modern twist on classic fairy tales.

The movie is set against the vibrant backdrop of Lagos, Nigeria, infusing the narrative with a rich blend of English, indigenous Nigerian languages, and pidgin English.

Busola Tejumola, MultiChoice West Africa’s head of content and channels, describes the film as a refreshing and authentic take on love in the 21st century.

She emphasizes that the production aimed to resonate with audiences by portraying relatable and light-hearted stories about the complexities of love and relationships.

The film, directed by Dimeji Ajibola and produced by ChiChi Nworah, seeks to bring a fresh perspective to the Nollywood industry, with a strong emphasis on African storytelling.

Featuring a star-studded cast including Ramsey Nouah, Carolina Hutchings, Ini Edo, Kanayo O Kanayo, Daniel Etim, Mercy Eke, Tina Mba, and Ayo Mogaji, My Fairytale Wedding completed principal photography in 2022.

While the release date for the trilogy has not yet been announced, anticipation is building for this engaging and culturally rich portrayal of love and marriage in modern Nigeria.
