Amapiano duo Malumz On Decks, consisting of Oscar Nyathi and Mandla Mtshali, have launched a new clothing line to mark their 10th year in the music industry.
Known for their hit singles like “Teka,” the duo sees this expansion as a rebranding effort that aligns with a new era. Oscar explained to TshisaLive that their goal was to create something creative, current, and relatable.
Mandla emphasized that the clothing line’s affordability was intentional, aiming to promote the brand rather than maximize profits.
Their “Shaket” jackets are priced at R550 and T-shirts at R350, with plans to release a tracksuit and woolen hat for winter in three weeks. They handle the designing themselves, collaborating with various creatives, including the fashion business Godspeed.
Malumz On Decks hail from Ekurhuleni, east of Johannesburg. Before forming the duo, they pursued separate careers: Mtshali, known as Mandla the DJ, partnered with solo music producer Noxious Deejay, while Nyathi transitioned from promoter to DJ.
The two became friends by supporting each other’s gigs, eventually deciding to join forces. The name “Malumz,” meaning “Uncles” in Zulu, reflects their deep connection and roots in the South African music scene.
