On August 16, 2024, award-winning superstar Asake kicked off his ‘Lungu Boy’ tour with a sold-out show at the Capital One Arena in Washington, DC. At the concert, Asake thrilled fans with performances of his hit singles, including tracks from his recently released third album, Lungu Boy.

The tour is scheduled to cover six major US cities, with Asake headlining notable venues such as the Toyota Centre in Houston, the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, and Madison Square Garden in New York, solidifying his international influence in the music industry.

Asake’s ‘Lungu Boy’ album, which features collaborations with high-profile artists such as Grammy-winning Nigerian superstar Wizkid, British rappers Central Cee and Stormzy, American artist Travis Scott, and Brazilian singer Ludmilla, has been a major success.

The album set a new record for the biggest opening week on Spotify Nigeria, amassing 18.9 million streams and surpassing the previous record of 14.4 million held by Davido’s Timeless. Asake’s prominence is further emphasized as he is the only artist with two albums in Spotify Nigeria’s top 10 opening week list, with his sophomore album Work of Art also earning 8.3 million streams in its first week.

In addition to its domestic success, Lungu Boy also made history globally, achieving the biggest opening day streams for a Nigerian album on Spotify with 9.2 million streams. The album’s second track, “MMS,” set a new record on Spotify Nigeria by recording 870,577 streams on its first day, breaking the previous record of 626,000 streams set by Wizkid’s “IDK” featuring Zlatan.

Asake’s impressive streaming records and successful tour kickoff have further solidified his position as one of Nigeria’s leading music stars on the global stage.
