On May 22, 2024, Spotify hosted a listening party in Victoria Island, Lagos, for Ayra Starr’s upcoming second album, “The Year I Turned 21.” The event brought together guests from the Nigerian music industry, including notable figures like Mavin founder and CEO Don Jazzy, COO Tega Oghenejobo, and Ayra Starr’s label mates Crayon and Bayyani.
Attendees had the exclusive opportunity to listen to tracks from the album ahead of its release.During the event, Ayra Starr discussed the demanding yet fulfilling process of creating the album, emphasizing the collaborative effort of her entire team.
In a Q&A session hosted by On-Air Personality Ope, she provided insights into the creation of each track. Other notable attendees included dancer and artist Poco Lee, various radio personalities, and content creators.
In the lead-up to the album release, Ayra Starr has already put out three singles: “Rhythm & Blues,” “Comma,” and “Bad Vibes,” featuring Seyi Vibez. “The Year I Turned 21” will also feature guest appearances from artists such as Asake, Giveon, Coco Jones, Aniita, and Ayra Starr’s younger brother, Milar.
Ayra Starr, who has recently received three nominations for the 2024 BET Awards, explained that her album is crafted from the perspective of a 21-year-old but aims to resonate with a broad audience.
