Nigerian Afrobeats artist Ayra Starr, recognized for hits like ‘Rush’, ‘Sability’, and ‘Rhythm & Blues’, has been chosen for Spotify’s EQUAL Africa and EQUAL Global program for May 2024.

Spotify’s EQUAL program, which saw 15 activations, 14.8 million artist discoveries, and 11,800 editorial playlist ads in 2023, highlights the impact and reach of the initiative.

Ayra Starr, whose February release ‘Commas’ has surpassed 35 million streams on Spotify, discussed her unique musical style and the significance of being named a Spotify EQUAL artist.

She expressed gratitude for representing women in Afrobeats and African women, praising the EQUAL program for spotlighting the efforts of women in music.

The Grammy-nominated artist is preparing to release her second album, ‘The Year I Turned 21’, in May 2024.

Born Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe on June 14, 2002, Ayra Starr started in fashion with Quove Model Management at 16 before transitioning to music. She gained attention by covering popular songs on Instagram and posting her first original song in December 2019, leading to her signing with Mavin Records by Don Jazzy.
