Columbia Pictures’ “Bad Boys: Ride Or Die” has invigorated the 2024 summer blockbuster season with a robust global opening of $104.6 million, topping the domestic charts at $56.0 million and earning $48.6 million across 60 international markets.
This performance parallels the $101 million debut of “Bad Boys For Life” during the Martin Luther King holiday weekend in January 2020.
The latter film concluded the year as the highest-grossing Hollywood film at the global box office with $426.5 million, largely due to the COVID-19 pandemic delaying other major releases to 2021.
“Bad Boys: Ride Or Die” is the fourth U.S. film in 2024 to achieve a $100 million-plus worldwide opening, following “Dune: Part Two,” “Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire,” and “Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes.”
In Europe, the film grossed an estimated $19.3 million, performing strongest in the UK/Ireland ($4.9 million over five days), Germany ($3.7 million), France ($3.1 million), and Spain ($1.7 million).
In Latin America, the Sony release set a franchise record with a $10.0 million opening, led by Mexico ($4.2 million) and Brazil ($1.6 million).
The Middle East also saw strong performance, nearly matching Latin America’s earnings with $9.5 million, highlighted by Saudi Arabia ($3.7 million) and the UAE ($2.8 million).
The Asia-Pacific region contributed an estimated $4.4 million, with Australia leading at $2.8 million, followed by Indonesia ($1.1 million) and Taiwan ($900,000).
In South Korea, the film debuted in fifth place with $520,000, behind the local sci-fi film “Wonderland.”
“Bad Boys: Ride Or Die” is on track to soon exceed the lifetime global total of the original 1995 “Bad Boys” film, which grossed $141.4 million, although this figure is not adjusted for inflation. The 2003 sequel, “Bad Boys II,” grossed $273.3 million.
