Former Big Brother Naija star and media personality, Natasha Anita Akide, widely known as Tacha, has taken to social media to express her disappointment over the treatment she has received from Nigerians in the United Kingdom.
The reality TV star, who recently relocated to the UK, voiced her frustrations in a video shared on her social media page. In the clip, she lamented how Nigerians in the UK often recognize her in public but fail to acknowledge her presence with a simple greeting.
Instead, she claims they resort to secretly recording her on their phones without even saying hello. This cold reception has left her feeling unappreciated by her fellow countrymen in the diaspora.
Tacha, known for her outspoken nature, did not hold back as she detailed her experiences. “You guys would not believe that I saw so many Nigerians today, which was great. But the craziest part is that they would see you and won’t say hi to you,” she said.
Comparing the experience with how she was treated by non-Nigerians, she added, “I can’t even start to count how many white people complimented me today, including a high school kid and an old man.”
Her remarks highlighted the stark difference in how she felt welcomed by foreigners as opposed to her fellow Nigerians, whose reaction left her feeling unacknowledged and frustrated.
The reality star also took the opportunity to call out the behavior of those who attempt to capture her on camera without permission. She expressed her annoyance at how, instead of engaging with her, Nigerians in the UK opt to take videos of her from a distance.
“The crazy thing was that the Nigerians that saw me today, what came into their heads was to bring out their phones and record me,” she lamented. This act, she implied, was not only intrusive but also a sign of a lack of genuine admiration or respect. She seemed particularly irked by the idea that people would rather treat her as an object of spectacle rather than acknowledge her presence with warmth.
Ending her message on a firm note, Tacha issued a stern warning to those who might encounter her in the future. “Let me sound this warning: if you see me on the road and don’t say hi to me, it’s fine. I don’t need anybody to say hi to me, and I’m not going to say hi to you either. But don’t bring out your phone to record me,” she declared.
Her statement made it clear that while she does not seek attention or greetings from strangers, she also expects the same level of respect in return. Tacha’s message has since sparked reactions online, with fans and critics sharing their opinions on the expectations celebrities should have from their fans in public spaces.
The discussion continues, highlighting the complexities of fame, recognition, and personal boundaries in the social media age.
