Nollywood actress and former Big Brother Africa housemate, Beverly Osu, has addressed one of the most controversial moments of her career—the 2013 sex scandal involving South African dance teacher, Angelo Collins, during their time on the reality show.

In a heartfelt and revealing conversation with media personality Chude Jideonwo on his WithChude podcast, Beverly set the record straight, clarifying long-held assumptions about what really transpired between her and Angelo on screen.

According to her, contrary to public belief, there was no sexual activity between them during the show.

“I was madly in love with Angelo and got too comfortable around him, which led to the rumours,” Beverly shared candidly.

She admitted that while their bond was deep and emotional, it never crossed the physical boundaries that people assumed. “I didn’t do it,” she said firmly, referring to the alleged sexual encounter. “I was 20… I brought out so many things from Big Brother, other than that [my relationship with Angelo].”

Her remarks painted a picture of a young woman in love, navigating the complexities of romance under the relentless scrutiny of the public eye.

Reflecting on the aftermath of the show, Beverly revealed how the scandal deeply affected her career trajectory and personal life. “It was love. Literally, it was love. All my problems in life come from love,” she confessed with a laugh that barely masked the pain of that memory.

She went on to say that the emotional toll was heavy, particularly as she was just starting out in her career and trying to shape her image beyond a reality TV moment. “I was so irritated because that was the only thing viewers picked,” she lamented. “Because I was in love.”

The reality star explained that while she gained exposure and valuable life lessons from her time on the show, the way viewers fixated solely on her relationship with Angelo frustrated her deeply.

“I have people that love me for who I am,” she said, expressing her gratitude for those who have supported her throughout her journey. Still, the actress admitted that the stigma from the show lingered longer than she expected, overshadowing her other accomplishments and contributions within the house.

Beverly didn’t shy away from acknowledging her youthful vulnerability during that time. “Every problem that I have had in this life is because of the greatest gift of God; love,” she said, with a touch of irony.

She described herself as someone who has always worn her heart on her sleeve, and it was that openness that made her an easy target for judgment. “I was dating na, make we tie gele?” she joked, pointing out the double standards often imposed on women in relationships, especially in the public eye.

Though the years have passed, Beverly made it clear that the experience left a lasting impression on her. Yet she refuses to be defined by that single moment.

Her goal now is to reclaim her narrative and remind people that she is far more than the rumors that once clouded her name. “I brought so many things from Big Brother,” she emphasized again.

Her time on the show included moments of strength, leadership, and vulnerability, all of which were unfortunately buried beneath the sensationalism of the scandal.

In a final reflection, Beverly reiterated her belief in love, despite all the heartache it may have brought. “I was in love with him,” she said again, this time with a kind of closure in her voice.

Her words served not only as a clarification but as a powerful statement about owning one’s truth, even in the face of years of public misunderstanding.

With her candor and grace, Beverly Osu is clearly ready to move forward, unburdened and unapologetic.
