The MTV soap-opera style series covers a variety of topics, such as HIV, STD prevention and care, teenage pregnancy, women empowerment, domestic violence, children’s health and family matters. This Ndani TV drama follows a celebrity blogger, some say it’s based on the life of Linda Ikeji after she is hit with a massive scandal. The series stars Blossom Chukwujekwu, Toni Tones, Uru Eke, Linda Osifo, and more.

This series of newly released comedy skits on YouTube by Samuel Ajibola has become an online sensation since its debut on March 10. The story follows Dele and the hilarious occurrences he faces on a daily basis. Episodes will be released bi-monthly, on the second and last Friday of the month. 


    15. How She Left My Brother


The YouTube web series is ultimately shot like a vlog and tells the story of a brother and sister who live together. The sister, Ejiro, uses her vlog as a diary in that she discusses with her viewers the issues in her daily life, school, family, friendships, and specifically, her brother’s girlfriend. The 7 episode series stars O.C Ukeje, Eku Edewor, Chris Attoh, Vanessa Kanu, Victor Godfrey, and Ivie Okujaye.

The iROKO TV series stars Kiki Omeilli, Adaora Ukoh, Chinonso Young, Katherin Obiang, and Keira Hewatch.

This Africa Magic series stars Tina Mba, Sadiq Daba, Anne Njemanze, Oge Okoye, Gloria Young, Kingsley Nwachukwu, Akin Lewis, David Jones David, and Bukky Ajayi. The drama tells the story of an old family hotel and the desire by several individuals to control it.

 

     11. Tiannah’s Empire


This new Ebonylife TV reality show follows the glamorous life of stylist, entrepreneur, mother, and socialite Toyin Lawani. The show premiered in Lagos on March 28 and will air regularly on TV starting April 8th. 


       10. The Johnsons


This Africa Magic series follows the life of a Lagos family in the trial and tribulations of their daily lives. The show stars Chinedu Ikedieze, Ada Ameh, Charles Inojie, Sharon Abadoni, Susan Pwajok, Olumide Oworu, Samuel Ajibola, Seun Adebajo Osigbesan, Cocabelle Guemini, Kunle Bantefa, Elvis Dike, and more. 


      9. Jenifa's Diary


This is another one of Nigeria’s most popular TV series! Jenifa, a young village woman, is desperately seeking a new and exciting life for herself. In hopes of getting a visa to the United States, she travels to Lagos but is faced with a dilemma when her visa is denied. So, she decides to stay in the capital and see what Lagos has to offer her. The comedy series was written by Funke Akindele, who also plays Jenifa. Other stars include Lolo, Lota Chukwu, Folarin Falana, and Olayade Juliana.

 

       8. Desperate Housegirls


No, we aren’t talking about the movie, we are talking about the iROKO TV series about housegirls who will either wreak havoc in a family or become a part of it. The drama stars Ini Edo, Ufuoma McDermott, Bishop Imeh, Belinda Effah, Kenneth Okolie, and Uzor Osimkpa. 


     7. Meet the Adebanjos


This British-Nigerian sitcom won the Best British African TV Series award! The comedy gives a glimpse into the lives of a Nigerian family living in London. The United Kingdom’s top British African Sitcom stars Wale Ojo, Andrea Ama Aboagye, Yetunde Oduwole, Tolulope Ogunmefun, and Daniel Anthony. 

 

     6. Festac Town


Taking place in Festac Town, Lagos, this series focuses on individuals and their families from the upper, middle, and lower classes. It stars Francis Duru, Blossom Chukwujekwu, Uche Ogbodo, Mary Njoku, Oge Okoye, and Keppy Ekpeyong.

Yes, you read correctly, puppets. The Buni.tv show gained momentum in 2014 around the time of the Nigerian elections and has since become a must-watch across all of Africa. Topics which were covered in the past included the country’s elections, Boko Haram, falling oil prices and the economy.

The Royal Arts Academy and ROK Studios brings viewers a series about a young woman who is desperate for a job and will go to any lengths to get one. Even if that means dressing as a man for the interview! The comedy-drama stars Mary Lazarus, Joseph Benjamin, Susan Peters, Mary Remmy Njoku, Venita Akpofure, and Michael Godson.

Kevin, a young man who relocated years ago to Liberia, decides it’s time to go back home to Nigeria and start over again. When he returns, he meets two women, both of which steal his heart. Kevin must decide between the two women, a decision he must make quickly but very carefully, as they both come with quite a bit of baggage. The drama stars KC Ejelonu, Baaj Adebule, Ini Dima-Okojie, Asa’ah Samuel, and Udoka Oyeka.

Okay, we know that this is a Kenyan soap opera but it’s just one of those shows you can’t leave out on a list of must-watch TV shows. 

The drama first aired on the Kenyan Television Network in 2011 before expanding across the continent.
Each of the 118 episodes covers a wide variety of everyday issues, such as family, relationships, friendships, polygamy, power, fame, greed, and wealth. It stars Ruth Maingi, Justin Mirichii, Lucy Nyagah, Florence Nduta, Irene Ayimba, and Tom Osongo.
