Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan, one of India’s most prominent actors, underwent emergency surgery after sustaining multiple knife wounds during an attempted robbery at his home in Mumbai.

The shocking incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday morning, leaving the 54-year-old actor with six stab wounds, including two deep cuts on his back and one perilously close to his spine. The attack has left his family and fans shaken, as Khan’s injuries required urgent medical intervention to stabilize his condition.

Doctors at Lilavati Hospital, where Khan was admitted, revealed the gravity of the situation. According to Dr. Niraj Uttamani, the actor suffered a spinal fluid leak that necessitated emergency neurosurgery.

After the procedure, Khan was moved to the hospital’s intensive care unit for further monitoring. “Mr. Khan is stable and out of danger and is undergoing plastic surgery,” Dr. Uttamani explained. “A full assessment of his injuries will follow once all surgical procedures are completed.”

The attack has prompted a swift response from Mumbai’s law enforcement authorities. Dixit Gedam, Deputy Commissioner of Police, stated that reports of the incident were received around 3 a.m., and a manhunt is now underway to apprehend the perpetrator. “One of the accused has been identified but is yet to be caught and has been absconding,” Gedam said. He further disclosed that the suspect entered the apartment via a fire escape and gained access to the stairs leading to the property. Police believe there may be additional individuals involved in the crime, and officers are actively pursuing leads both within and beyond the city.

Preliminary investigations suggest a possible connection between the attacker and a member of Khan’s household staff. Mumbai police confirmed that three attendants are currently being questioned to determine their involvement. It is suspected that one of the staff members may have facilitated the intruder’s entry into the property. The breach in security has raised concerns about the safety protocols at the actor’s residence, located in the upscale Bandra neighborhood, where Khan lives with his wife, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and their two young children, Taimur, 8, and Jeh, 4.

The family issued a statement through Kareena Kapoor Khan’s representatives, reassuring the public that they were unharmed during the incident. However, the attack has left them deeply distressed. Ariyama Phillips, a staff member who raised the alarm, was also injured in the scuffle when Khan confronted the intruder. Phillips’ brave intervention likely prevented further harm, and she is being treated for her injuries.

Khan’s illustrious career spans over 70 films and television series, some of which he has also produced. He is the son of former India cricket captain Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi and renowned actress Sharmila Tagore, and his contributions to Indian cinema have earned him a dedicated fan base. News of the attack has sparked an outpouring of support on social media, with fans and fellow actors expressing their relief over his recovery and outrage at the incident.

As police continue their investigation, the focus remains on securing justice and ensuring the family’s safety. “Our police teams are now across the city of Mumbai and have also gone beyond the city’s boundaries,” Gedam assured. The incident has highlighted the vulnerabilities even high-profile individuals face, emphasizing the need for enhanced security measures. For now, fans and well-wishers are hopeful for Saif Ali Khan’s full recovery and await further updates on the case.
