Marvel’s “Deadpool & Wolverine” has garnered $205 million (£159.5 million) at the North American box office during its debut weekend, placing it among the top 10 openings of all time.

The film, featuring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, broke the record for the highest opening of an R-rated film, previously held by the first “Deadpool,” which earned $132 million (£102.6 million).

Including international markets, “Deadpool & Wolverine” is expected to achieve a global opening of over $438.3 million (£340 million).

Domestically, it ranks eighth in all-time opening weekends, positioned between “The Avengers” ($207.4 million) and “Black Panther” ($202 million), and surpassing “Avengers: Age of Ultron” ($191.3 million) which drops out of the top 10.

This success marks the second consecutive hit for Disney following the animated Pixar movie “Inside Out 2,” which earned $154.2 million in its June debut.

These blockbusters have bolstered cinema chains like AMC Entertainment, Cineworld, and Cinemark, which have faced a sparse film schedule in 2024 due to delays caused by last year’s strikes by Hollywood actors and writers.

The top domestic opening record still belongs to “Avengers: Endgame” with $357.1 million, followed by “Spider-Man: No Way Home” ($260.1 million), “Avengers: Infinity War” ($257.6 million), “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” ($247.9 million), and “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” ($220 million).
