Captain America: Brave New World has continued its impressive box office run in Nigeria, grossing nearly N300 million within three weeks of release.

According to data from the Nigerian Box Office, the film earned an additional N43.9 million between February 28 and March 2, pushing its total revenue to N298 million. This milestone underscores the growing appeal of superhero blockbusters in the Nigerian market, where Marvel films have consistently performed well in recent years.

Distributed in Nigeria by FilmOne Entertainment, Brave New World had an outstanding debut, earning N137.5 million in its opening weekend. This made it the biggest premiere of 2025 in Nigeria, setting the stage for its continued dominance in cinemas across the country.

The film’s early success reinforced the strong demand for Hollywood’s high-budget action films, particularly those within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

The momentum for Brave New World remained strong into its second and third weeks, as it continued to top Nigerian box office charts. Between February 14 and 16, it recorded the highest earnings of any film that weekend, further demonstrating its widespread appeal.

By the end of its second week, the film had amassed a total of N226 million, with an additional N57.2 million coming in between February 21 and 23. While its local earnings remain impressive, its performance on the global stage presents a more complex picture.

Internationally, Brave New World has held the number one spot at the global box office for three consecutive weekends. However, despite its continued dominance, the film’s overall revenue has raised concerns for Marvel Studios.

Directed by Julius Onah, the movie marks Anthony Mackie’s first solo appearance as Captain America following his transition into the role in Avengers: Endgame. The film’s commercial performance is being closely watched as an indicator of the MCU’s current standing among audiences.

Over the past weekend, Brave New World remained the top-grossing film in the United States, generating an estimated $15 million. However, the impact of the 2025 Academy Awards resulted in a subdued weekend for ticket sales, with fewer major releases entering the market.

While the film has managed to hold its position at the box office, analysts have noted that it has struggled to reach the blockbuster numbers typically expected from Marvel films.

So far, Brave New World has earned a total of $341.8 million worldwide, surpassing the global earnings of The Incredible Hulk (2008), which finished at $265.5 million, and The Marvels (2023), which remains Marvel’s lowest-grossing film at $199.7 million.

However, current projections suggest that Brave New World may conclude its theatrical run in the $400 million range. If these estimates hold, it would place the film’s earnings closer to Eternals ($401.7 million) and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings ($432.2 million).

Unlike Eternals and Shang-Chi, which were released during the pandemic and faced numerous challenges, Brave New World has benefited from an uninterrupted release schedule. This makes its relatively underwhelming global box office performance more concerning for Marvel Studios, as it suggests a potential decline in audience interest.

The MCU has long been known for its billion-dollar box office hits, but recent releases have struggled to reach those heights.

Critically, the film has received mixed reviews, with a 49% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Many reviewers have cited pacing issues, predictable storytelling, and a lack of standout action sequences as some of the film’s weaker points.

This lukewarm reception from critics has contributed to the perception that Brave New World has not lived up to the high expectations set by previous Captain America films.

Despite the mixed critical response, audiences have been far more receptive to the film. On Rotten Tomatoes, it holds an 80% audience approval score, indicating that general viewers have found it more enjoyable than critics suggest.

While it may not be a record-breaking success, Brave New World has demonstrated strong staying power in markets like Nigeria and remains a significant player in the ever-evolving Marvel Cinematic Universe.
