Paul Spencer, known as Dario G, has passed away at the age of 53 following a battle with stage four rectal cancer. Spencer, renowned for his dance hits such as “Sunchyme” and “Carnaval De Paris,” was diagnosed in 2023 and had been open about his condition on social media.

His family announced his death with a heartfelt message, noting his positivity until the end and the lasting musical legacy he leaves behind.

Originally part of a trio, Spencer had been performing solo under the Dario G name in recent years. The group gained fame with “Sunchyme,” which reached number two on the UK singles chart in 1997, and “Carnaval De Paris,” which peaked at number five in 1998.

Tributes poured in from fellow musicians and fans following the announcement. The electronic duo Phats and Small expressed their sorrow, while British DJ MistaJam and DJ/producer Sigala shared condolences and praised Spencer’s influence.

Sigala also relayed Spencer’s message about the importance of health checks. Born in Crewe, Spencer revealed his cancer diagnosis in June 2023, maintaining an optimistic outlook and preparing for medical treatment.

Despite planning to perform in 2024, he announced in May that he had to cancel his show due to illness. Spencer’s impact on the music industry and his legacy as Dario G will be remembered fondly.
