D’banj is set to release a sequel to his 2008 classic album “Entertainer.” In a recent interview, he revealed that the new album, scheduled for release on June 28, 2024, will continue the legacy of his critically acclaimed and commercially successful “Entertainer,” which featured hit singles such as “Igwe,” “Fall In Love,” “Gbono Feli Feli,” and “Suddenly.”
As one of Nigeria’s most illustrious artists, D’banj significantly contributed to the international spread of Nigerian music, particularly through his collaboration with Snoop Dogg on the “Mr. Endowed” remix.
He noted that while others had collaborated with international artists before him, his efforts on a larger scale helped change the narrative for Nigerian musicians.
D’banj highlighted that before his success, featuring international artists was often seen as a favor to Nigerian musicians.
However, his high-profile collaboration with Snoop Dogg provided visibility and hope for upcoming Nigerian artists.
He said:
“Before outs, featuring an international artist used to be seen like they were doing you a favour…but we were able to deliver the biggest and that was able to give hope and visibility to the kids.”
D’banj also discussed the importance of collaboration in the current music industry, expressing his desire to work with new generation stars like Ayra Starr, Rema, and Ruger.
Celebrating 20 years in the music industry, D’banj described his upcoming album as a sequel to “Entertainer,” emphasizing that, like any good movie, his album deserves a sequel, coming 16 years after the original.
In his words:
“Just like every good movie, there’s a sequel…this is ‘Entertainer’ the sequel coming 16 years after,” D’banj told Hip TV.
