Nollywood actor and politician Desmond Elliot recently sparked a wave of social media reactions with his bold and unconventional outfit at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards.

The Lagos State lawmaker made a dramatic fashion statement by stepping onto the red carpet in a striking two-piece ensemble — a shirt paired with a skirt, both featuring a prominent elephant imprint.

The gender-bending outfit drew a mix of praise and criticism online, with many fans questioning the inspiration behind the daring look.

In a candid interview with Saturday Beats, Elliot explained the deeper significance behind his outfit choice.

“I am more in politics now, and it means the few times you have the opportunity, just come out differently. Don’t make too much noise, but let people see a lot of noise in what you are doing,” he shared, his voice calm yet confident.

For him, fashion is not just about clothing but a form of self-expression. “It could go two ways. It could be good, or you could totally mess it up. Life is about taking chances, and at 50, you have to take bold chances,” he added.

Elliot further revealed that the elephant imprint on his outfit holds a personal and symbolic meaning for him. “What gives me confidence now is the fact that I have an elephant imprint which has always been my watchword because of what the elephant stands for – power, strength, loyalty, stability, love.”

The choice of the elephant, a creature known for its majestic presence and strong family bonds, was his way of communicating resilience and loyalty — qualities he values deeply.

When asked whether he enjoys the attention that comes with being in the limelight, Elliot’s response was a mix of honesty and self-awareness.

“I won’t exactly say I love it, but it is okay. Right now, I don’t go too extreme,” he admitted. Reflecting on his journey through fame, he added, “When you come through what they call ‘midlife crisis’, you just learn to consider how you are feeling at the moment. But, generally, it is just my own way of saying let everyone live their lives.”

His words hinted at a sense of maturity and acceptance of his evolving identity.

Curious to know more, the interviewer pressed further, asking if he was currently experiencing a midlife crisis.

With a light chuckle, Elliot responded, “That is if I am not still in it.” His candid admission highlighted the honesty that has endeared him to many of his fans. Despite the controversies and opinions surrounding his fashion choice, the actor-turned-politician remained true to himself.

Desmond Elliot’s bold outfit at the AMVCA and his openness about the inspiration behind it show a man comfortable in his own skin, unafraid to take risks and embrace his personal journey.

Whether celebrated or criticized, his statement look has once again placed him in the spotlight, sparking conversations about self-expression, identity, and the power of fashion.
