Nigerian disc jockey and philanthropist, Florence Otedola, better known as DJ Cuppy, has once again shared a deeply personal story that sheds light on the often transactional nature of human relationships.

Taking to her X (formerly Twitter) page, the daughter of billionaire businessman Femi Otedola recounted an experience that left her questioning the sincerity of those around her.

In a candid post, Cuppy revealed that she once believed she had found a genuine supporter, someone who appeared to care and show up for her during a time of need.

However, she would later learn that the person’s kindness came with strings attached—an experience that left her feeling used and, in her own words, “stupid.”

“I learnt the hard way that there’s no such thing as a FREE lunch,” she wrote. “A few years ago, I really thought someone was being kind. They showed up for me, offered help, and made me feel supported. I thought it came from a good place…” Cuppy explained.

However, the situation took a different turn when the individual later made their true intentions known. “They made it clear they expected something in return, an investment or, hilariously, an introduction to my dad.”

That moment of realization, she said, was crushing. It forced her to confront the uncomfortable truth that not all acts of kindness are rooted in sincerity.

The celebrity DJ, known for her bubbly personality and bold fashion choices, didn’t hold back in expressing the emotional toll the experience took on her.

“I felt so stupid for not seeing it earlier,” she admitted, baring her vulnerability. This experience, though painful, has become a lesson she now carries forward with clarity and caution.

“Learn from me… Not everything that looks like support comes from a good place!” she advised her followers, many of whom praised her honesty and bravery in sharing such a personal revelation.

This isn’t the first time DJ Cuppy has pulled back the curtain on her private life to reveal the challenges she faces despite her wealth and fame. In recent times, she has reflected on her upbringing, acknowledging that she didn’t fully grasp how privileged her childhood was.

“I didn’t realise how lucky I was not to have to worry about anything growing up,” she shared in a separate post. That realization has given her a deeper sense of gratitude.

“I now see things differently, and I thank God for my life,” she wrote, adding that she doesn’t take her blessings for granted anymore.

Cuppy’s openness about her experiences—whether they involve heartbreak, disappointment, or privilege—continues to set her apart in the world of celebrity culture.

While some might shy away from revealing their scars, she has used her platform to inspire and caution others, especially young women navigating fame, trust, and relationships.

Her recent post serves as both a personal reflection and a public warning: not all that glitters is gold, and even the most well-meaning support can sometimes come with a hidden agenda.
