Veteran Nigerian music icon, Evangelist Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi, has firmly denied widespread rumours of his death, assuring fans and the public that he is alive, strong, and in good health.

The legendary musician made this clear in a video released on Tuesday morning, where he appeared energetic and joyful, singing in a mix of Yoruba, English, and Pidgin to disprove the viral claims.

With a voice still as vibrant as ever, Obey-Fabiyi used the performance to celebrate life and condemn the misinformation spreading about his demise.

In the video, Obey-Fabiyi joyfully declared, “Hello, my name is Professor Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi. Satan, you don lose o, Satan, you don lose o, you don pafuka. Na lie lie you dey talk, you don pafuka.”

The veteran singer, clearly unshaken by the rumour, used music—his lifelong tool—to fight back against the falsehood. His spirited singing, combined with his lively appearance, served as a powerful rebuttal to the fake news circulating online.

He expressed gratitude to God for life and took the opportunity to send a positive message to his fans and followers.

In a more direct statement following his musical response, Obey-Fabiyi said, “It is fake news that started a few hours ago claiming that I, Evangelist Obey, have passed on to glory. It is a lie. I am alive, and that is not the word Jesus has written.”

The 83-year-old music legend emphasized his faith and used the moment to call for caution when spreading news, especially about people’s lives.

He encouraged the public to verify information before sharing and warned against the emotional harm such rumours can cause to loved ones.

The death hoax began spreading rapidly on Monday, causing confusion and sorrow among his numerous admirers across Nigeria and beyond.

Social media platforms were flooded with messages of mourning, tributes, and emotional posts from fans who believed the sad news. For hours, many were caught in a wave of grief, unaware that the information was entirely false.

It wasn’t until Tuesday morning that the truth became widely known, thanks to the video and statements from close associates.

Before Obey-Fabiyi addressed the rumour himself, his personal assistant, Tope Olukole, had already spoken out to quash the misinformation.

In a Monday evening interview with TVC, Olukole said, “Let’s set the record straight: Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi is alive and thriving! He recently celebrated a joyous occasion — the 50th birthday of his second child’s spouse.”

Olukole explained that there was absolutely no reason to believe the rumour and assured everyone that the music legend was not only alive but in high spirits.

“Rumours of his passing are baseless and entirely unfounded. We’re glad to see him active and well,” Olukole added. The incident came just weeks after Obey-Fabiyi marked his 83rd birthday, a celebration that saw fans, family, and colleagues honouring his contributions to Nigerian music and culture.

His response to the rumour only further demonstrated his resilience, faith, and signature grace under pressure.

As one of Nigeria’s most beloved musicians, Obey-Fabiyi remains a symbol of strength and inspiration, and his fans are relieved to know that he continues to live and thrive.
