Popular TikTok personality Murja Ibrahim Kunya has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Kano State on charges related to Naira mutilation and abuse.
Her arrest stems from allegations of spraying money in public, an act that contravenes Nigerian law. The EFCC has been actively pursuing individuals involved in such practices, emphasizing its commitment to enforcing financial regulations and preserving the dignity of the national currency.
A reliable source within the EFCC confirmed to Freedom Radio Kano that Murja is currently in the custody of the commission. Her arrest is part of an ongoing crackdown targeting individuals who openly spray money at social gatherings, including weddings, birthday parties, and other celebrations.
The EFCC has repeatedly warned against this trend, which it views as a violation of financial laws and a practice that encourages reckless disregard for monetary discipline.
In addition to Murja, the EFCC has recently detained other TikTok influencers on similar charges. Among them are Al’amin G-Fresh and Ashir Idris, who were also apprehended for engaging in activities deemed to be in violation of currency regulations.
The arrests signal a broader effort by the commission to curb the growing trend of public money abuse, particularly among social media figures who influence a large audience.
As of now, neither the EFCC nor Murja’s legal representatives have released an official statement addressing the matter. The case has sparked discussions online, with some social media users defending the influencers, while others commend the EFCC’s actions.
It remains to be seen how the situation will unfold, especially as authorities continue to clamp down on currency abuse across the country.
