The Chief Magistrate Court, Wuse Zone 2, has summoned five social media users Okoronkwo Ejike, Kingsley Ibeh, DJ Spoiltkid, Terrence Ekot, and Samuel Agozie for “criminal defamation” against gospel singer Mercy Chinwo and her husband, Blessed Uzochikwa.
The defendants are ordered to appear in court on April 23, 2024, following allegations that they falsely claimed another gospel singer, Nathaniel Bassey, was the father of the couple’s child.
The complainants’ lawyers argue that the defendants’ actions constitute cyber intimidation, injurious falsehood, and cyberstalking, violating penal and cybercrimes laws.
Additionally, Nathaniel Bassey has petitioned the Inspector General of Police to investigate and prosecute four of the defendants for criminal defamation and cyberstalking.
