Stedman Pearson, a member of the British pop group Five Star, has passed away at the age of 60, his family has confirmed.

The singer, who gained fame in the 1980s alongside his siblings, died on Monday. His sister Deniece revealed that he had been living with diabetes and undergoing dialysis treatment before his passing. His death marks a great loss to both his family and fans who fondly remember his contribution to British pop music.

Five Star, made up of Stedman and his siblings Deniece, Lorraine, Doris, and Delroy, became a household name during the 1980s. Known for their flashy outfits, polished choreography, and infectious pop sound, they were often compared to the legendary Jackson 5.

Their rise to fame saw them dominate the UK charts, bringing a fresh and exciting energy to the music scene. Their coordinated performances and stylish image made them stand out in an era of dynamic pop groups.

The family released a heartfelt statement paying tribute to Stedman, describing him as “a gentleman to the very end – in every way and an amazing son, brother, and uncle.”

They expressed their deep sorrow at his passing while finding comfort in the memories and love he shared with them and the world. His impact on music and his loved ones will be cherished forever. Fans and fellow musicians have also expressed their grief, celebrating his legacy in the industry.

Five Star’s success was marked by a string of hit songs, including System Addict, Can’t Wait Another Minute, and Rain or Shine, which became UK chart favorites. Their 1986 album Silk and Steel reached number one, solidifying their status as one of the biggest pop acts of their time.

Their achievements were recognized in 1987 when they won the Brit Award for Best British Group. Though the band initially disbanded in 1995, they reunited multiple times, with their last performance as a four-piece taking place in 2016.

Beyond his music career, Stedman also made appearances on television, participating in The All Star Talent Show in 2006 and BBC Three’s Celebrity Scissorhands in 2008. Born and raised in Romford, Essex, he was the eldest sibling in the group and played a significant role in shaping Five Star’s identity.

The band was originally formed in 1983 by their father, Buster Pearson, a singer himself, who guided them to stardom. Stedman’s passing marks the end of an era for Five Star, but his influence on British pop music remains undeniable.
