Roberta Taylor, renowned for her roles in “EastEnders” and “The Bill,” has passed away at the age of 76. Her agent, Roxane Vacaa, confirmed that she died on July 6.
Taylor, born in London, was well-loved by TV audiences for her portrayal of Irene Raymond in “EastEnders” from 1997 to 2000, where her character was central to several gripping storylines.
After her stint on “EastEnders,” Taylor made a notable return to television in 2002 as Inspector Gina Gold in ITV’s “The Bill,” a role she held for six years.
Beyond these iconic roles, she appeared in other popular TV shows including “Luther,” “Casualty,” and “Inspector Morse.” Taylor also featured in the film adaptation of Roald Dahl’s “The Witches” and the 2005 BBC period drama “Bleak House.”
In addition to her television and film work, Taylor had a distinguished theatre career, performing with the Royal Shakespeare Company. Her final stage performance was in the musical “Dusty” in 2018.
She continued to act in television until 2022, with her last role being Gloria Fonteyn in the comedy “Shakespeare & Hathaway.” Taylor also authored a memoir in 2005, “Too Many Mothers: An East End Childhood,” where she delved into her family’s intricate history.
