Nollywood stars Funke Akindele Stephen Oluboyo have solidified their place as one of the industry’s most successful writers by emerging top on the list of the highest-grossing Nollywood writer for 2024.
Alongside Collins Okoh and Akinlabi Ishola, Funke achieved this milestone with the blockbuster film Everybody Loves Jennifer, which earned a staggering N1.125 billion at the box office. The film’s remarkable performance highlights Funke’s consistent ability to create captivating stories that resonate with audiences across the country.
This achievement was officially announced by FilmOne Entertainment via their Instagram handle, @filmoneng, on Friday. The post also revealed that Stephen Oluboyo secured the top spot as the highest-grossing Nollywood writer of 2024.
Oluboyo’s impressive portfolio included Everybody Loves Jennifer, Alakada Bad and Boujee, and Aburo, which collectively generated N1.38 billion. His dominance in the box office rankings showcases his versatility and knack for delivering hits that appeal to a broad spectrum of viewers.
Anthony Joseph claimed the position of the third highest-grossing Nollywood writer, with his films Queen Lateefah, The Waiter, and Alakada Bad and Boujee amassing a total revenue of N780 million.
Joseph’s success further underscores the commercial viability of Nollywood films that blend humor, drama, and relatable storytelling. Meanwhile, Jack Enneth Opukeme emerged as the fourth highest-grossing writer, with his projects Farmer’s Bride and All’s Fair in Love raking in N299 million.
The fifth spot was taken by Stephen Okonkwo, whose film Ajosepo brought in N257 million at the box office. Adebayo Tijani and Ola Olaoye followed closely, tying for the sixth position with their collaborative work on Beast of Two Worlds: Ajakaju, which earned N253 million. This success demonstrates the enduring appeal of action-packed and culturally rich narratives in Nollywood.
Oluyombo Oluwagbemiga and Toyin Abraham claimed the seventh spot with Alakada Bad and Boujee, generating N229 million. Meanwhile, Odunlade Adekola and Akorede Ibrahim ranked eighth with Lakatabu, which earned N202 million. These films further emphasize Nollywood’s ability to produce diverse genres that capture the audience’s attention and achieve financial success.
Finally, Ayo Makun and Tunde Babalola rounded out the list of top 10 highest-grossing Nollywood writers for 2024. Makun’s The Waiter generated N185 million, securing the ninth spot, while Babalola’s historical drama Funmilayo Ransom Kuti earned N157 million, placing him at number ten. The rankings underscore the depth of talent within Nollywood and the increasing global appeal of its storytelling.
