“Godzilla vs. Kong: The New Empire” exceeded expectations with an $80 million opening weekend across 3,861 screens in North America, making it the second-highest debut of the year just behind “Dune: Part 2.”
The collaboration between Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures featured Rebecca Hall and Brian Tyree Henry and showcased the iconic monsters teaming up rather than battling each other.
Mary Parent, Legendary’s chairman of worldwide production, attributed the success to the film’s cinematic spectacle and innovative portrayal of the characters.
Despite a smaller opening compared to its 2021 predecessor, “Godzilla vs. Kong,” the film hinted at future success for monster collaborations.
It ranked as the second-highest opening in the MonsterVerse franchise and follows the critically acclaimed “Godzilla Minus One,” released just four months prior.
