Warner Bros has announced that Andy Serkis, famous for his portrayal of Gollum in Peter Jackson’s Lord Of The Rings trilogy, will direct and star in the first of two new films set in the world of Middle Earth. Serkis will reprise his role as Gollum in the movie titled “Lord Of The Rings: The Hunt For Gollum.”

Peter Jackson, along with Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, the creative team behind the original trilogy, will produce the films. Serkis expressed excitement, using Gollum’s catchphrase, “Yesssss, Precious,” and stating his eagerness to collaborate again with Jackson, Walsh, and Boyens.

The producing team, Warner Bros. Discovery’s CEO David Zaslav noted, will play a pivotal role in the new venture, ensuring their involvement at every step.

Warner Bros. initially announced plans for new films set in the Lord Of The Rings world in 2023, following the success of Jackson’s original trilogy and the subsequent Hobbit films.

The upcoming movie focusing on Gollum is scheduled for release in 2026, promising to explore previously untold storylines.

Jackson, Walsh, and Boyens expressed their enthusiasm for returning to Middle Earth with Serkis, highlighting their lifelong admiration for Professor Tolkien’s mythology.

They are proud to collaborate with Warner Bros. on another epic adventure. Jackson’s original Lord Of The Rings films garnered widespread acclaim, winning a total of 17 Oscars.

In addition, a separate animated Middle Earth movie titled “The Lord Of The Rings: The War Of The Rohirrim” is set for release in December, exploring events 200 years before The Hobbit.
