The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has suspended Nollywood actress Halima Abubakar after a two-year investigation revealed her involvement in spreading defamatory information about her colleagues and other prominent figures in the industry.

The suspension follows the discovery that the actress had been disseminating false and misleading statements, leading to significant damage to the reputations of those affected.

The AGN’s decision was announced on Friday, October 18, 2024, in an official statement released on the Guild’s Instagram page.

The investigation was conducted by a special Secret Investigation Panel, which carried out a thorough and covert inquiry into the allegations against Abubakar.

The panel’s findings confirmed that she had been the source behind the spread of scandalous stories related to extramarital affairs and infidelity within the Nollywood industry.

According to the AGN, the information leaked by the actress had caused considerable harm and discord among actors, prompting the Guild to take disciplinary action.

As a result of these findings, Halima Abubakar has been indefinitely suspended from the Guild. The suspension means she is prohibited from participating in any AGN activities or taking part in film projects associated with the Guild during the suspension period.

The AGN’s statement also indicated that the actress would face the National Disciplinary Committee, where further sanctions and her full punishment will be determined based on the severity of her actions.

The Guild has issued a stern warning to Abubakar, advising her to comply with the terms of the suspension.

Any violation of the suspension rules could result in additional disciplinary measures being taken against her.

The AGN emphasized that maintaining the integrity and professionalism of the industry is a priority, and it will not tolerate behavior that undermines the reputation of its members.

The statement reads:

“Following the thorough investigative report by the special Secret Investigation Panel set up to conduct an internal underground secret investigation… the Panel found out that Miss Halima Abubakar was behind all the slandering information,”

She will face the National Disciplinary Committee to determine her full punishment,”

In addition to Abubakar’s suspension, the AGN disclosed that other female members are currently under investigation for similar allegations.

The Guild’s ongoing efforts to address these issues signal its commitment to enforcing ethical standards within the industry.

The AGN is determined to take appropriate action against anyone found guilty of such misconduct to protect the integrity of its members.
