Renowned Nollywood actress Halima Abubakar has broken her silence about her ongoing health struggles, revealing the depth of her battle with illness.

On Tuesday, February 18, 2025, the Kano-born Kogi native took to Instagram, sharing a series of videos where she opened up about her condition. In an emotional revelation, the 39-year-old actress admitted that she has been using a TikTok filter to conceal the real state of her face.

She also reached out to the public, including political leaders from her home state of Kogi, appealing for financial assistance to help cover the mounting costs of her medical treatment.

Speaking with visible pain in her voice, Abubakar expressed frustration over the skepticism she has faced regarding her illness. “People are confused about what is going on. I am not feeling well up until now. I am just good at being strong and pretending that I am okay,” she lamented.

Addressing those who doubted her claims, she continued, “This is me, but every day you see me post a picture with a filter. That is a filter on TikTok, not me. This is how I look. Some of you will be laughing. What is funny? Will I be lying? Why would somebody say I am lying? Lying about what? That I am sick?”

Her words reflected not just her physical pain but also the emotional toll of being disbelieved in such a vulnerable time.

The actress also disclosed that due to her deteriorating health, she had to relocate to her village for an entire year while undergoing treatment. She addressed widespread rumors suggesting that she was pretending to be sick, strongly refuting such claims.

“I have so many medical things to do. My MRI, my BP. It’s 157. What am I thinking?” she asked rhetorically, emphasizing the gravity of her situation. “I have not done a movie for more than six years now. What do people want? For me to die? Do you want me to kill myself? I went for MRI three times.”

The weight of her words underscored the immense physical and psychological burden she has been carrying.

Reaching out for financial support, Abubakar revealed that the cost of her treatment has been overwhelming, with repeated medical tests and the necessity of ongoing care. She shared that despite once being financially comfortable, her prolonged illness has drained her resources.

“I was rich. I sold everything, my cars. Everything!” she admitted. “How would I live when I am not working?” Her plea painted a distressing picture of someone who had once thrived in the entertainment industry but is now struggling to make ends meet due to her failing health.

One of the most heartbreaking aspects of her revelation was her disappointment with the Nollywood industry, which she claimed had turned its back on her. According to her, colleagues who once stood by her side have now abandoned her in her time of need.

“Everybody in Nollywood, they don’t talk to me anymore because of this singular thing. Everybody,” she said bitterly. “I go from DM to DM trying to see who will help me.” Her words highlighted not just the financial burden of her illness but also the emotional pain of feeling isolated and unsupported by those she once considered friends.

Abubakar’s plea extended beyond the entertainment industry to political figures in Kogi, her home state, urging them to come to her aid. She emphasized that she was not seeking sympathy but practical assistance to continue her medical treatment.

“There is nothing wrong with me medically now,” she clarified, indicating that while she is still unwell, she is actively seeking the means to recover. She stressed that her only wish was to regain her health so she could continue living a normal life.

Her courageous decision to go public with her struggles has sparked mixed reactions online. While some fans and well-wishers have expressed support, others remain skeptical.

However, her message remains clear—she is in dire need of help and is determined to fight for her life. As she continues to battle her condition, she hopes that her voice will be heard, and that those in positions to assist will step forward. “It’s been tough, but I’m still here,” she said, a glimmer of resilience in her voice. “I just need a little help to keep going.”
