Ian “H” Watkins, a former member of the pop group Steps, is set to receive a tribute in his hometown of Cowbridge, Wales. A local action group, Cultural Cowbridge, has funded and commissioned an 8ft tall statue of him, designed by a local artist.
The statue will be installed outside the Bear Hotel in Cowbridge, near where Ian was born, to commemorate his contributions to British music and his impact on the community.
Ian expressed his surprise and pride at the news, stating that he’s grateful to Cultural Cowbridge and the donors for making it possible.

The unveiling of the statue is scheduled for June 2024, coinciding with Cowbridge’s Pride event, which Ian founded in 2022.
Despite news of Steps taking a break from the limelight, Ian’s bandmate Claire Richards confirmed that they have no plans to break up and hinted at a possible return to the stage in the future.
