Veteran Nigerian actor Ibrahim Chatta has openly stated that he has no interest in winning the prestigious Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).
The actor, who was nominated for the Best Lead Actor category for his role in House of GAA, lost the award to fellow actor Femi Adebayo, who won for his performance in Seven Doors.
Despite the loss, Chatta’s stance on the awards is clear: he is not driven by the need to claim such accolades.
Chatta’s remarks came during his appearance on the Curiosity Made Me Ask podcast, where he addressed the topic of his AMVCA nomination and eventual loss.
When the host, Isbae U, inquired whether Chatta felt underrated in his profession and suggested that he should pray to win the AMVCA, Chatta was unflinching in his response.
“I’m not interested,” he stated, firmly dismissing any desire for the award. His words spoke volumes about his perspective on the value of such recognitions in his long and successful career.
While many would expect actors to be eager to claim a prestigious award like the AMVCA, Chatta’s position reflects a deeper sense of self-assurance and contentment in his craft.
To him, the importance of his work and the respect of his peers holds more weight than the trophies and accolades that often come with the industry’s award circuits.
The actor’s unbothered attitude towards such awards highlights his focus on the craft itself rather than external validation.
The 11th edition of the AMVCA, held on Saturday night in Lagos, celebrated numerous talents in the entertainment industry, but for Chatta, it was a reminder that recognition does not define the worth of an artist.
Despite not winning, Chatta’s contribution to Nigerian cinema remains significant, and his stance only emphasizes the intrinsic value he places on his work and his passion for acting beyond the glitter of awards.
