During an inquest in Chelmsford, it was revealed that George Gilbey, known for his role on the popular show Gogglebox, tragically fell to his death while working on a roof in Shoeburyness, Essex. The 40-year-old sustained severe injuries to his head and torso and succumbed to them at the scene on March 27.
The proceedings were halted at the request of Essex Police due to an ongoing criminal investigation into the incident. Essex senior coroner Lincoln Brookes agreed to suspend the inquest for four months pending further developments.
Gilbey gained fame for his appearances on Gogglebox alongside his mother Linda McGarry and stepfather Pete McGarry, who passed away in 2021. The family initially featured on the show in 2013 but was later dropped when Gilbey participated in Celebrity Big Brother’s 14th series in 2014, where he reached the final.
A man from the Witham area of Essex was previously arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter in connection with Gilbey’s death but was later released under investigation by the police.
