J. Cole has expressed remorse for releasing a diss track aimed at Kendrick Lamar titled “7 Minute Drill,” vowing to remove it from streaming services. The track was a response to Lamar’s verse on the song “Like That,” where Lamar asserted his dominance in hip-hop. Cole called Lamar’s latest album “tragic” and compared his career to “falling off like the Simpsons.”
However, during a performance at the Dreamville Festival in North Carolina, Cole apologized for his response, describing it as “lame” and “goofy.” He admitted feeling terrible about it and asked for forgiveness from Lamar, acknowledging it as a misstep and expressing a desire to return to his true path.
The beef between Lamar, Drake, and Cole stemmed from Cole’s suggestion of them being the “big three” in hip-hop, which Lamar contested in his verse on “Like That.” Despite feeling pressure to respond aggressively, Cole struggled with the tone of his verse, realizing it didn’t align with his feelings towards his peers. He praised Lamar’s talent and hoped he hadn’t taken offense.
Cole promised to remove or update “7 Minute Drill” from streaming platforms, emphasizing his discomfort with the situation.
