Ghanaian actress and television personality Joselyn Dumas has been appointed as the Deputy Director for Diaspora Affairs by President John Dramani Mahama.

The announcement, made on March 2, 2025, has been met with widespread acclaim, with many celebrating the appointment as a strategic move to strengthen ties between Ghana and its global diaspora.

Colleagues in the entertainment industry, political analysts, and members of the diaspora community have all lauded the decision, highlighting Dumas’ influence and extensive network as key assets in fostering engagement with Ghanaians abroad.

In her new position, Dumas will work alongside fashion icon and media personality Kofi Okyere Darko (KOD), who serves as the director of the Diaspora Affairs Office. Together, they are expected to spearhead initiatives that promote investment, cultural exchange, and developmental partnerships between Ghana and its diaspora.

Given her background in media and entertainment, Dumas is well-positioned to utilize her platform to connect with Ghanaians living abroad, encouraging them to contribute to the nation’s economic and social progress.

Her ability to engage with diverse audiences, coupled with her deep understanding of Ghanaian culture, makes her a valuable addition to the office.

Born on August 31, 1980, in Accra, Ghana, Joselyn Dumas had a well-rounded education that set the foundation for her successful career. She attended Morning Star School for her early education before proceeding to Archbishop Porter Girls’ High School.

Her academic journey continued in the United States, where she pursued a degree in Administrative Law. This legal background provided her with a structured approach to problem-solving and advocacy—skills that will undoubtedly be beneficial in her new role.

Despite her legal training, Dumas found her true passion in the entertainment industry. Upon returning to Ghana, she transitioned from working as a paralegal to becoming a household name in film and television. She has starred in numerous critically acclaimed films and TV series, including A Northern Affair, Potato Potato, John and John, and Madam.

Her performances have earned her multiple awards, solidifying her reputation as one of Ghana’s most talented and influential actresses. Beyond acting, she has also made a mark as a television host, using her platform to discuss social issues and promote African culture.

The Diaspora Affairs, Office of the President (DAOOP), which Dumas now joins in a leadership capacity, was established in February 2017 to serve as a crucial link between the Ghanaian government and its diaspora community.

The office plays a significant role in mobilizing the resources, skills, and expertise of Ghanaians abroad for national development. It also facilitates opportunities for market access, investment, and technological innovation, ensuring that the diaspora remains an integral part of Ghana’s progress.

With Dumas stepping into this role, expectations are high that she will bring fresh energy and innovation to diaspora engagement efforts. Her appointment symbolizes a shift towards using cultural and media influencers to drive national initiatives, acknowledging the impact of soft power in diplomacy and development.

As she embarks on this new journey, many are eager to see how she will harness her experience in entertainment and law to bridge the gap between Ghana and its global community.
