Prominent South African actors, Kagiso Lediga, Thuso Mbedu, and John Kani, have secured roles in Disney’s highly anticipated new film, “Mufasa: The Lion King.”

The movie, originally scheduled for release in July, is now set to premiere in December and boasts a star-studded cast, featuring Seth Rogen as Pumbaa, Billy Eichner as Timon, Donald Glover as King Simba, and Beyoncé Knowles-Carter as Queen Nala. Beyoncé’s daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, will voice the character Kiara, the daughter of Simba and Nala.

The storyline will follow the perspectives of Simba, Timon, and Pumbaa, with John Kani reprising his role as Rafiki, while Kagiso Lediga lends his voice to a young version of the mandrill.

Thuso Mbedu, known for her success in international productions such as “The Woman King,” joins the cast in a significant role.

Renowned composer Lebo M will introduce new songs to the film, collaborating with Lin-Manuel Miranda, who has a history of involvement with “The Lion King” music production.

Director Barry Jenkins revealed that the movie will explore parallel timelines, focusing on Mufasa’s past and Kiara’s present, akin to the structure of the 1998 sequel “The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride.”

While drawing from the original canon, the film will also introduce fresh elements, creating a unique narrative.

“Mufasa: The Lion King” is scheduled to premiere on December 20, 2024, promising an exciting cinematic experience for audiences worldwide.
