Katy Perry’s latest music video for the song Lifetimes is under investigation in Spain for allegedly filming without authorization on protected sand dunes in the Balearic Islands. The video features Perry on the beaches of Formentera, on a boat, swimming in the sea, and partying in the clubs of Ibiza.
The Spanish government stated that there are alleged violations related to the filming on the uninhabited islet of S’Espalmador, located at the northernmost point of Formentera. The production company behind the video is currently being investigated for these potential breaches.
Spanish officials from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Natural Environment clarified that the investigation is still in its preliminary stages and that the incident is not being treated as an environmental crime.
They noted that permission might have been granted for the filming had it been properly sought. Despite the ongoing investigation, neither Katy Perry nor the production company has publicly commented on the matter.
S’Espalmador, the location in question, is part of the natural park of Ses Salines and is considered one of the most ecologically diverse areas of Formentera, known for its natural mud flats and salt plains.
Meanwhile, Katy Perry is preparing for the release of her seventh album, 143, scheduled for September. The lead single from the album, Woman’s World, and its accompanying video, have faced mixed reviews from critics and did not achieve significant chart success, landing outside the Top 40 in the UK.
In her personal life, Perry is engaged to actor Orlando Bloom, and the couple shares a three-year-old daughter, Daisy Dove Bloom. Representatives for the singer and the production company have been contacted for comment on the ongoing investigation in Spain.
