Liam Payne, the former One Direction singer, left behind an estate worth more than £24 million when he passed away last year, according to official records.

The singer, who died tragically at the age of 31 in Argentina in October, did not leave a will, which means his assets are now subject to the legal rules of intestacy.

These rules generally stipulate that if a person dies without a will and is unmarried, any children they have will inherit their estate. For Payne, this means that his eight-year-old son, Bear, whom he shares with former Girls Aloud star Cheryl, is the primary beneficiary.

Cheryl, who was Payne’s partner for more than two years, and music industry lawyer Richard Bray have been appointed as administrators of the late singer’s estate. However, they currently have limited authority over the assets.

They can manage the money and other properties, but they are not yet allowed to distribute the inheritance.

This restriction is due to the initial limited grant of representation they have received, which is described in the probate documents as providing them with “the power to preserve the deceased’s estate until a general grant is made.”

The circumstances of Payne’s death were both shocking and tragic. He passed away after a fatal fall from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

His sudden demise left his fans worldwide in disbelief, and the news sent shockwaves across the music industry. In the months that followed, a legal investigation was launched in Argentina, examining whether there was any criminal negligence involved in the incident.

By February, a court in Argentina cleared three of the five individuals who had been initially charged in connection with his death, dropping the charges against them.

The probate documents reveal that the total gross value of Payne’s estate was initially estimated at £28.6 million.

However, after accounting for debts and other expenses, the net value was reduced to £24.3 million. Despite the considerable value of his estate, the process of managing and eventually distributing his assets has become a complex legal matter due to the absence of a will.

This situation has placed a significant responsibility on Cheryl and Bray, who must ensure the assets are managed in Bear’s best interests.

For many fans, the news of Payne’s wealth and the ongoing legal proceedings is a reminder of the heights he reached in his career.

As a member of One Direction, he became an international superstar, with the band selling millions of records and topping charts worldwide throughout the 2010s. Even after the group went on hiatus, Payne maintained a successful solo career, adding to his fortune.

But the legal battles over his estate have added a somber layer to his legacy, highlighting the importance of estate planning, even for those who are young and successful.

As the legal process continues, Cheryl has remained relatively private, focusing on raising Bear and protecting his interests.

For her and Bray, navigating the complexities of Payne’s estate is a delicate task, one that requires balancing legal obligations with the emotional weight of his loss.

The music world still mourns Payne, and his story serves as both a cautionary tale about the importance of having a will and a tragic reminder of a young life cut short far too soon.
