The cast of “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy mourns the loss of their beloved co-star Bernard Hill, who passed away at the age of 79.
Hill, renowned for his portrayal of King Théoden in Peter Jackson’s epic fantasy series, was remembered fondly by his fellow actors Elijah Wood, Billy Boyd, Dominic Monaghan, and Sean Astin, who portrayed the four hobbits in the films.
Expressing their grief at Comic Con in Liverpool, they bid farewell to their “funny, gruff, beautiful” friend, describing the loss as that of a family member.
Hill’s absence at the Merseyside event was felt deeply by his co-stars, who stood together on stage to pay tribute to his memory.
Sean Astin, known for his role as Samwise Gamgee, led the homage, praising Hill’s courage, humor, and charisma. Billy Boyd, who portrayed Pippin, reminisced about Hill’s unparalleled delivery of JRR Tolkien’s words, praising his ability to infuse them with realism that touched hearts.
Bernard Hill’s passing was also acknowledged by other figures in the entertainment industry. Alan Bleasdale, creator of “Boys from the Blackstuff,” hailed Hill’s performance as “mesmeric” and “astonishing,” noting his transformative portrayal of Yosser Hughes.
