Popular luxury detective page, T20Luxury, has publicly called out Nollywood actress Mercy Aigbe for allegedly flaunting a counterfeit designer handbag.

The Instagram-based page, known for exposing fake luxury items, shared a picture of the actress and issued a warning against purchasing and promoting counterfeit products. The post immediately stirred conversations online, with many questioning the prevalence of fake luxury goods among Nigerian celebrities.

Alongside Aigbe’s image, T20Luxury specifically pointed out the authenticity of her handbag and eyewear. “Dear Mercy Aigbe, this is NOT a genuine LV Capucines. Even the authenticity of the eyewear is questionable,” the page stated firmly. The post quickly gained traction, with fans and fashion enthusiasts debating whether celebrities should be more mindful of the luxury items they showcase. Some supporters of Aigbe argued that she might have unknowingly acquired the bag from a stylist or personal shopper, while others believed that public figures should exercise more caution in endorsing fashion pieces.

T20Luxury further elaborated on its stance, urging Aigbe to be more diligent when selecting her fashion team. “We recognise that, as a celebrity, you may depend on the expertise of a stylist or personal shopper to curate your wardrobe and accessories. However, we trust that you understand the negative impact of counterfeit goods on creativity, particularly given your influential role within the creative industry. We encourage you to conduct due diligence when hiring a stylist,” the company advised. This statement underscored the wider conversation around fashion authenticity and the responsibility of influencers in promoting ethical fashion choices.

This controversy comes just days after T20Luxury similarly called out comedian AY Makun for allegedly flaunting fake luxury items. The page has built a reputation for scrutinizing celebrities and high-profile individuals who unknowingly or intentionally wear counterfeit designer products. As social media continues to shape public perception, incidents like these highlight the increasing pressure on celebrities to maintain an image of affluence and exclusivity, often leading to controversies about the authenticity of their fashion choices.
