Margot Robbie’s production company, LuckyChap, is set to produce a film based on the classic board game Monopoly, which has been in development for over a decade. Hasbro Entertainment, a division of the American toy company, will also be involved as a producer.
Robbie’s company previously worked on Saltburn and the successful film Barbie, which she also starred in. Robbie expressed her desire to create more impactful films like Barbie and explore bold, original ideas with significant budgets.
Lionsgate Motion Picture Group and Hasbro Entertainment are enthusiastic about the project, believing it has the potential to become a blockbuster. Monopoly, a globally recognized game, offers storytelling opportunities, according to Zev Foreman, head of film for Hasbro Entertainment.
The game, patented in 1904 by Lizzy Magie as the Landlord’s Game, gained popularity during the Great Depression and has since become a household name, teaching players the art of property management.
