During a press conference on Wednesday, a heated verbal exchange erupted between Abosede, the late Mohbad’s mother, and Nollywood actor Yomi Fabiyi. The event was organized by Fabiyi under the aegis of his Break the Silence Foundation.
The conference, tagged “Justice for Mohbad 2025,” was aimed at shedding light on the circumstances surrounding the death of the popular singer. However, the proceedings took an unexpected turn when accusations and counter-accusations dominated the discussions, leaving attendees stunned.
Yomi Fabiyi claimed during the conference that Mohbad’s younger brother, Adura, had allegedly demanded a sum of three million naira (N3,000,000) in exchange for vital information about the singer’s death.
This assertion sparked outrage from Abosede, who vehemently rejected Fabiyi’s claims. She described his statements as baseless and accused him of attempting to tarnish her son’s reputation. Her impassioned reaction highlighted the emotional toll the controversy had taken on the grieving family.
Abosede provided a detailed account to refute Fabiyi’s allegations. She clarified that Adura never contacted Fabiyi regarding the circumstances of Mohbad’s death. Instead, she explained that Adura had sold his phone to someone named Damola due to financial constraints.
According to her, it was Damola who had messaged Fabiyi, and this information was already public knowledge. She further disclosed that she had confronted Damola, who admitted his actions and even apologized for the confusion caused.
Expressing her initial support for Fabiyi’s efforts, Abosede revealed that she had been hopeful when he first announced his intention to seek justice for her late son. However, her perception changed when she began to suspect ulterior motives.
She accused Fabiyi of endangering Adura’s life by falsely implicating him in the matter. The mother’s anguish was evident as she questioned the actor’s intentions, suggesting that his actions might have more to do with personal gains than genuine concern for justice.
In her remarks, Abosede passionately defended her surviving son, emphasizing that he had no knowledge of the events leading to Mohbad’s death. She argued that if Adura truly had any involvement, he would have faced similar consequences as his brother.
Her words painted a picture of a family struggling to navigate a whirlwind of grief and accusations while trying to protect their remaining members from undue harm.
Her words:
“Adura is not the one who messaged you about knowing the cause of Mohbad’s death. Adura sold his phone to Damola because he did not have money. It was Damola that messaged him and it is publicly known. I confronted the boy, and he confessed and also apologized”
“The first time you came out publicly about your intention to help seek justice I was happy but later I felt you also wanted to kill Adura, my son.
You said he was the one who messaged you, it is publicly known he wasn’t but you went ahead to organise a conference. Do you want to tarnish his image?
If Adura truly knew the cause of his brother’s death, he would have joined him. If we do not know the cause, I will not mourn over my surviving children.”
Abosede’s outburst also touched on the broader implications of Fabiyi’s claims. She questioned why the actor chose to organize a press conference without verifying his information, accusing him of attempting to damage Adura’s image in the eyes of the public.
Her concerns underscored the importance of sensitivity and accuracy in handling issues of such gravity, especially when they involve grieving families and unverified allegations.
The press conference, which was meant to be a platform for advocating justice for the late singer, ultimately highlighted the deep divisions and tensions surrounding the case.
Abosede’s heartfelt defense of her family, coupled with her accusations against Fabiyi, added another layer of complexity to an already contentious situation. As the search for answers continues, the incident serves as a reminder of the emotional and social challenges that often accompany high-profile cases like this one.
