Veteran Nollywood actor Yusuf Olorungbebe has passed away after a prolonged battle with a severe illness that ultimately left him on life support.

The news of his death was made public by actress Foluke Daramola on August 28, 2024, through her verified Instagram page, where she shared her sorrow and gratitude for the support received.

Her message, “We lost Yusuf Olorungbebe… We submit to God’s Will. Thank You Everyone!” captured the deep sense of loss felt by the Nollywood community and his fans alike.

The actor’s death came just four days after Daramola had first informed the public about his critical condition. In a heartfelt plea, she had reached out to Nigerians for financial assistance to cover Olorungbebe’s mounting medical expenses.

On Instagram, she shared a video of herself beside Olorungbebe, who was on life support, explaining the dire state of his health and asking for donations, no matter how small, to help save his life. Her appeal highlighted the desperate situation and the immediate need for financial intervention.

As the news of Olorungbebe’s condition spread, it drew significant attention and concern from the public. Many Nigerians, touched by the actor’s plight, responded to Daramola’s appeal, contributing what they could to assist in his treatment.

The support from the public underscored the strong bond between Nollywood stars and their audience, who often step in to support their beloved actors in times of need.

However, despite the outpouring of goodwill, the situation remained critical, with Olorungbebe’s health showing no signs of improvement.

During this difficult period, Daramola received a significant boost of support from the Nigerian Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Toke Benson-Awoyinka.

In a notable act of kindness, the commissioner reached out to Daramola and pledged to cover the outstanding medical bills. This intervention provided a ray of hope in an otherwise bleak situation, with Daramola publicly expressing her deep gratitude for the commissioner’s generosity and timely assistance.

She noted how this offer would help alleviate some of the financial burdens faced by Olorungbebe and his family.

In her words:

“I want to specially thank the commissioner for culture and tourism. Out of your busy schedule, you reached out to me and offered to foot all the outstanding medical bills in the hospital and other ones. We appreciate you so much, ma.”

Despite these efforts, Olorungbebe’s condition remained critical, and the support, while appreciated, was not enough to turn the tide. His passing marked a somber moment for the Nollywood industry, which had rallied around him in his final days.
