Nigerian gospel singer and ordained pastor, Bolaji Olarewaju, fondly known as Big Bolaji or “Big B,” has sadly passed away.
His family confirmed the news in an emotional statement released on Saturday, revealing that he died following a brief illness.
The announcement has left the gospel music scene and Christian community mourning the loss of a man many described as passionate, gifted, and deeply committed to his faith and art.
“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Bolaji Olarewaju,” the family stated. “Affectionately known as ‘Big B,’ he was a cherished father, husband, brother, and an esteemed figure in both the church and the music industry. He was an ordained pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), and a towering personality whose influence spanned across many generations.”
According to the statement, Bolaji passed away on Easter Saturday, April 19, 2025.
The family added that funeral arrangements and other details regarding his final rites will be communicated to the public at a later date.
They expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love and prayers they’ve received from across the country and around the world since the announcement of his passing. “We covet your prayers in this difficult time and will communicate the funeral plans in due course,” the statement concluded.
Big Bolaji recently marked his 50th birthday, a milestone he celebrated with loved ones and admirers of his decades-long ministry.
Known for his high-energy praise sessions and heart-stirring gospel sound, Bolaji began his music journey with the gospel group J’apha.
Over the years, he became a familiar face on the gospel stage, often combining music with his duties as a radio talk show host and pastor.
