Paramount Pictures has announced additional cast members for its much-anticipated film adaptation of Children of Blood and Bone, adding more talent to an already impressive lineup.

The newly revealed actors include Saniyya Sidney, Zackary Momoh, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Ayra Starr, Pamilerin Ayodeji, Shamz Garuba, Kola Bodunde, and Temi Fagbenle.

This expansion of the cast has generated further excitement among fans eagerly awaiting the movie, which is based on Tomi Adeyemi’s bestselling novel.

Notably, two of the newly cast actors, Pamilerin Ayodeji and Shamz Garuba, were selected through an open casting call held in Nigeria.

This decision reflects the studio’s commitment to authenticity, ensuring that the film maintains its deep connection to Nigerian culture and heritage.

While the specific roles of Ayodeji and Garuba have not yet been disclosed, Arise News is set to reveal this information exclusively at a later date.

The inclusion of fresh talent alongside Hollywood heavyweights highlights the film’s blend of global and local representation.

The film is being directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood, known for her work on The Woman King and Love & Basketball. The lead role of Zélie Adebola, the fearless protagonist of the story, will be played by Thuso Mbedu.

Tosin Cole has been cast as Tzain, Zélie’s fiercely protective older brother, while Amandla Stenberg will take on the role of Princess Amari. This strong leading trio sets the stage for a gripping and emotional cinematic experience.

In addition to the lead cast, Children of Blood and Bone boasts an impressive lineup of powerhouse actors. Damson Idris, Lashana Lynch, Idris Elba (as Lekan), Chiwetel Ejiofor, Cynthia Erivo, and Viola Davis have all joined the production, with Davis portraying the wise mentor, Mama Agba.

The presence of such esteemed actors further elevates the film’s anticipation, as fans eagerly await their interpretations of the beloved characters.

Filming officially began in South Africa on February 17, 2025, marking a major milestone in the movie’s production.

Tomi Adeyemi, the novel’s author, shared her excitement on social media, posting a behind-the-scenes image of a director’s chair with the caption: “And… action.”

This sneak peek delighted fans, reinforcing the excitement surrounding the adaptation and its journey from page to screen.

Prince-Bythewood worked closely with Adeyemi in adapting the screenplay, ensuring the film remains true to its Nigerian-inspired fantasy roots.

The collaboration between director and author has been a crucial aspect of the film’s development, as both are dedicated to preserving the story’s cultural authenticity.

By weaving elements of West African mythology, history, and traditions into the script, they aim to bring Adeyemi’s magical world to life in a way that resonates deeply with audiences.

The decision to hold a casting call in Nigeria was particularly meaningful to Prince-Bythewood, who expressed her thoughts in an Instagram post.

She stated,

While the story of Children of Blood and Bone is set in a mythical place, its roots are deeply embedded in Nigeria’s history, traditions, and landscapes. By having a casting call in Nigeria, I aimed to bring that essence of the country’s magic and realism into a fictional world. I’m proud to share that as a result of that casting call, we’ve selected Pamilerin Ayodeji and Shamz Garuba to help bring this magical world to life.”

Her words underscored the film’s deep cultural ties and the importance of authentic representation.

Paramount Pictures has officially set Children of Blood and Bone for release on January 15, 2027.

The film will debut in IMAX, promising a visually stunning and culturally immersive experience for viewers. With its powerful storytelling, stellar cast, and breathtaking visuals, the adaptation is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated fantasy films of the decade.
